Winnie Lin, born in Taiwan and raised in Singapore, is a Master's student in Interior Design, First Professional, at the University of Texas at Austin. With a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Winnie is passionate about integrating graphic and interior design to enhance spatial experiences. Her focus is on visual storytelling, using design to create spaces that provide sensory experiences, invite adventure, and evoke emotional connections.

Meixi Xu is an undergraduate interior design: built environments student at the School of Visual Arts. Meixi's designs are highly imaginative and capture the essence of the culture and site, and they engage our imaginations for what could possibly be realized. She also strives to make a difference and to create behavioral change with design.

The ASID Student Portfolio Competition is open to applications from both ASID student members and non-members. Applications are free for ASID and IDC members. For non-members, the application fee is $49 and includes one year of ASID student membership.  

Jury Process  

The jury will assess each submission on concept (how does this represent the way the student thinks?), content (how does this submission represent the student’s ability?), context (how does the submission represent who the student is and what the student has accomplished?), and execution (how well does the student communicate the content and value of their work?).

  • Submissions will be judged in three rounds by nationally recognized leaders and sponsor representatives.

    • Round 1: Online review of all complete submissions. The highest scored submissions will move on to Round 2 as semi-finalists.  

    • Round 2: All semi-finalists will be reviewed by the 2024 jury.

    • Round 3: All finalists will participate in a series of virtual interviews with the 2024 jury.

  • Following the interviews, the jury will select up to three 2024 Student Portfolio Competition winners.

December 6, 2023 – Submissions Open

February 21, 2024 – All Submissions Due
Submissions will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. EST on February 21

March 14, 2024 – Semi-Finalists Informed

April 4, 2024 – Finalists Informed

April 8-10, 2024 – Mandatory Virtual Interviews for Finalists

April 16, 2024 – Winners Notified

Access to GATHER

With the support of Benjamin Moore, competition winners receive complimentary registration for GATHER Catalyst. Competition winners will also receive travel stipends to attend the event.
 

National Media Exposure

Enjoy the spotlight! As a competition winner, your talent will generate buzz. Through  outreach and social media engagement, ASID will share the news of your accomplishments with the ASID community and beyond. Finalists and winners will also be given social media graphics to promote to their own networks. Finalists and winners will be featured on the ASID website for a full year until the next competition’s honorees are named, showcasing your excellence to our broad membership of interior design leaders. 

Scholarship Funds

Each competition winner receives a $6,000 scholarship to help you achieve your goals as you advance in your chosen profession.

ASID Student Portfolio Competition judges are selected from top firms across the nation, offering finalists an unparalleled level of exposure to leading organizations (and possibly your future colleagues!)  The 2023 jury included outstanding leaders from Benjamin Moore, Gensler, HDR, HGA, HKS, HOK, ICRAVE, and Perkins&Will! 

Eligibility

  • Must be enrolled as an interior design student attending a college or university in the U.S. or Canada as of September 1, 2023.

Cost to Enter

  • $0 for ASID and IDC student members. One submission per student.
  • $49 per non-member submission (includes one year of ASID student membership). *
